THE FORD EV SETS NEW WORLD RECORD

Adventurer and Influencer, Lexie Limitless, was about to become the first person to circumnavigate the globe in an EV. Teaming up with experiential agency IMAGINATION, the idea was to film the final stretch of Lexie’s journey and my role as director was to capture the finish line crossing in the most dynamic way possible. Sounds simple, right? Well, as often happens, the scope of the project grew, to include a procession of 25 vehicles from Ford’s Hall of Fame, with celebrity drivers and even Ford’s CEO, Jim Farley, all eager to be a part of this historic moment.

My vision for the finish line crossing was to shoot the experience like the last 30 minutes of a Tour de France stage. To do this, I mapped out a picturesque route winding through charming towns along the Cote D’Azur, traversing the Port of Nice, and crossing the finish line outside the Hotel Royal on Promenade-des-Anglais. Tour de France motorcycle teams, drones, in-car cameras, and a helicopter simultaneously captured every moment, transmitting live pictures up to a circling plane, which relayed images down into an OB truck for me to direct the live broadcast.

When Lexie crossed the finish line, there was huge sigh of relief and a round of applause inside the OB truck (It reminded me of the scene in ‘Apollo 13’ when the Command Module finally re-enters Earth’s atmosphere) as we had successfully captured a milestone moment in electric mobility.
